My Holiday April 2010

Mysore

First we went to Mysore. We halted in Mysore to see my mother’s uncles. We stayed at their place. After a little while my mother and my mother’s uncle left to visit someone. My mother’s aunty, my sister and I stayed back at home. In the house my sister and my mother’s aunt played a game called Rummikub. When they were playing I was doing something on power point on the computer. Afterwards we had dinner. Then I watched little television. After that my father and I slept together. My mother and my sister slept by themselves in another room. The next day my whole family woke up at 05:00a.m. Then at 05:45 a.m we left and reached Puttur at 10:00 am. Puttur is near Mangalore.

Puttur

In Puttur my cousins were there. Three of my cousins came from U.S.A. And three other cousins came from Bangalore. One of my Bangalore cousin's mother has had a new baby, so I now have another cousin! We played many games in Puttur. We played Police and Robbers. We even played a game with a bow and arrow. We took a bow and arrow and aimed it on our car window. After a little while we played video games on the television. In Puttur there is a big ground. On that ground every year in April they set up rides during the temple festival. There were many different rides. We went on three rides. They are:
The ferris wheel, break dance and another one whose name I cannot remember.

Here is a picture of some family members who went together to the ground:

We were staying in our grand uncle's house. They have a dog who is very old so he did not play with us at all. Here is a picture of the dog:

Mangalore

Day 1

In Mangalore I played with my cousins who were from my mother’s side. We played games like Carrom,Uno and I spy. After that we had lunch. For lunch there was pulau, raitha and red rice. After that my mother and father slept. My cousin sister and I played cricket.

Day 2

We all woke up at 7:00 am. I brushed my teeth and had my milk. After that my sister, my father and I washed our car. This is the third time that I am cleaning my car. When we went to Kotekar once before I cleaned it. Here is a picture that show us cleaning the car:

I love to clean our car. It is a lot of fun. My father says that I can clean the car better than our car-cleaner!!! After cleaning the car we had our breakfast. For breakfast there was red-rice and pickle. Then I had my bath. After that my parents and my sister had bath. In the morning I played a lot. After that in the evening we went to visit some more people. Next morning we left to meet someone in Kundapur and then went to Manipal (city not hospital).

Manipal
Day 1
We reached Manipal at 5:30 p.m. We were really tired so we had an early dinner and slept.

Day 2
We all woke up at 7:00 a.m. We quickly had our bath and our breakfast. After that my family and I left to Malpe to take a boat to St. Mary's island! In Malpe we saw many boats waiting to go fishing. We asked a man, "how many days do you go fishing?" The man said that some small boats go for 5 days some go for 10-15 days. After that we went to take a boat to St. Mary's Island. We went and asked what time the boat would leave. They said that the boat would leave only when there were 30 passengers!! At that time only 2 passengers had come!! The boatman told us that the boat would leave around 10:30 a.m. It was only 9:30 a.m!! So we went to the beach nearby. At 10:00 a.m we came back. Only 16 passengers were there. Even at 10.30a.m there were only 16 passengers. So we went home. In the house I read some books till lunch time. After lunch I again read. I finished 3 Junie B. Jones books, and 1 Magic Tree House book. In the evening we went to the beach. On the beach I mostly played in the sand because the sea was very rough. My father bought a kite. Then I wanted to fly it. But suddenly the thread broke off the kite flew away. But we were really lucky because the thread got stuck on some dry shrub! So we got it back but when I was taking it back, it slipped from my hand and flew away again! But then my father caught it. After that my sister and I flew it till it was time to go home. In the house we had bath. After that we had our dinner and slept.

Day 3
My family and I woke up at 8:00 am. We had our breakfast. After that we cleaned the car. After that I had my bath. Then I started to read the Magic Tree House. I read a little and watched television. Then I had my breakfast. I read some books. Then it was lunch time. I ate my food. After that I read a little and played on the computer. We slept early. The next day we woke up and left to Puttur. In Puttur there was a naming ceremony for my baby cousin. After the naming ceremony my 2 Bangalore cousins, their mother and my grand-aunt came in our car to Bangalore. At 05:00 p.m we had a coffee break. We reached Bangalore at 10:00 p.m. We went to our cousins house at 10:45 p.m. In their house we had pizza for dinner. Then we dropped my grand-aunt in their house. Then we came to our house. My family slept immediately. That was "THE END" of my HOLIDAY....

BTW, what is the name of the dog in Puttur. I know the name of the breed - Dalmation, but I would like to know his name too.

iOS 7 Update for Apple Devices

There is an OS update for iPads, iPhones and iPods (only for some generations). In this update there are many changes. The button on the right side of your iPads and iPhones now can be used to either, lock screen rotation, mute, pause or play your music. Lock Screen: In the older version to unlock the phones/tablet we had to swipe at the bottom part at the screen. Now we can swipe anywhere on the screen. As you can see in the picture, I have circled something at the bottom. If we swipe upwards we get many shortcuts. We can pause, play, change music tracks, increase/decrease volume, put the tablet/phone into airplane mode, Turn On/Off Wifi/Bluetooth/Do Not Disturb Option and mute our device. We can also view the current time in different time zones. The keypad that we see when we unlock the phone is also different.Changing the brightness is also an option. Here is a picture of this shortcut panel and the unlock iPad keypad. Plan A, Plan B. And Plan C?

I wrote this in May 2026 and then left it sitting in my drafts for six weeks. Partly because it feels more personal than what I usually put online. Partly because writing honestly about uncertainty is uncomfortable when most of us are busy performing certainty. And partly because I wasn’t entirely sure I believed all of it yet. I’m still not sure. But perhaps that’s the point. So, here goes. ----- May 2026   Two years ago, I moved back to India. I hadn't planned on it. In fact, if you'd told me in 2020, when I packed my bags and left Bangalore for France, that I'd be back in four years, I'd have laughed it off as a failure of imagination. The plan had always been to stay abroad  and build a career in Europe. The universe, well, had other plans.   Four years abroad had been, by most measures, a good run. Two years in France at Sciences Po,  a well-paid summer internship in Paris, the youngest funded researcher on a research project between Princeton, Columbi...

Visiting the Kasturinagar (KA-03) RTO - a tumultuous but manageable experience to get a Learner's/ Driver's License without an agent/ driving school

Ask anyone, and I can guarantee that they will have a story (and in most cases, many stories) about their trip, or rather, numerous trips to the RTO for something as simple as getting a Learner's License (LL) or a Driver's License (DL). In this blog, I hope to make your life a tad bit easier by guiding you through the entire process, which may seem easy at first but is full of (overcome able) challenges if you know what you are doing. I turned 18 in January this year, and besides cutting a cake, I worked on my LL application online. I challenged myself to complete the entire LL to DL process by myself and without the help of an agent or a driving school, unlike what the majority do. The lengthy application process and multiple visits to the RTO, impressed upon me why most people decided to pay a little extra to get an agent to do it for them. Still, I was determined not to pay a single rupee more than the official cost. I succeeded.  Do note that this answer is concerning the K...

Praying Mantis

Once a Praying Mantis was lying in my living room. I took it onto my hand and it felt scared for 5 minutes. Then when I did not harm it,it did not feel scared. It crawled all over my body. When it went near my neck it started to itch. I then told my mother to remove it. Then I looked at it. It was doing something with its whiskers. After a little time I put it near my plants. After that I went to tell my mother that I put the Praying Mantis on the plants. By that time it flew away. Here is a picture of a Praying Mantis on my T-Shirt:

What I did on my 1 day holiday

On 16 of February 2011 there was a holiday, since it was the festival of "Id". I played with my sister and her friends. We played badminton first. After that we got found a few seeds and put them in a pot that was abandoned. We also put leaves. Then we put a lot of water into the pot and then mixed it. While we had gone to the jogging track my friend stayed back. Once we came back my friend told me that while we had gone a cat had come smashed the pot and ran away.

Toll Tickets

Well, almost all of us have gone on atleast one long distance journey during which we have stopped at a toll gate and paid. All we do is stop, pay, go. I can assure you that 99% of you would not have actually studied a toll ticket. So here I have. As you would have read from my previous blog post , I went to Chitradurga. During that visit, I collected toll tickets. At the top of the ticket usually there is the name of the company followed by the serial number, date and time, lane number etc. On every ticket there is also something called an operator ID. On the way to Chitradurga The IRB TCBOT Tollways Pvt. Ltd. company's operator IDs are made of numbers. But the company called NBTL has a few letters as well as a few numbers in the operator ID. This is a difference that I observed. One more thing that I noticed was that, both these companies wished you either a 'Happy Journey'or a 'Safe Journey'. The ticket also tells you your registration number. I have noti...
